Managers are back in the game

I have always leaned toward less layers of management, or relatively flat orgs, over many layers of management. The more layers you have, the harder it is to make decisions and move quickly.

This way of thinking hasn’t changed since AI entered the picture. If anything it has caused the lines to blur between managers and individual contributors.

I suspect many managers are on an exciting new arc of starting to build again, after years of management focus that has dulled their technical strengths.

With AI they are back in the game, stronger than ever!

Great managers are great coaches because they know how to play the game. Great coaches build great teams that don’t need layers of management to be high performing.
